Jakarta,APBI-ICMA : As Quote Carsurin Coal & Mineral Insider Newsletter April 2010 that sources from an article featured in Seputar Indonesia on Goverment Regulation ( PP ) No. 23/2010 on Administration of Mineral and Coal Mining Operations, the goverment is reported to have set a three-month timeframe from the date the regulation went into effect on February 1 for mining companies to replace their mining concession with the new Mining Business Permit ( IUP ) or Public Mining Permit ( IPR ) no later than April 2010.
The most important prequisite to supply for permit application is a map of mine locations and coordinates. As many as 8,020 concession holders have been registered with the Directorate General of Mineral, Coal and Geothermal Energy ( Minerpabum ) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. A company that has not applied for a first and/or a second extension of their KK or PKP2B can submit a renewal request for an extended IUP without participation in a bidding process. There are 42 KK and 76 PKP2B-holding companies that need to renew their contracts but by early January 2010 only 28 PKP2B holders had negotiated an amendment and only 9 companies with expired KK had responsed to the draft proposal.
